Thallwitz church

The Thallwitz village church is a stately hall church with an elongated choir. The original Romanesque church - the foundation walls and the base of the tower still remain - was extended with a Gothic choir around 1500 by Bishop Johann von Salhausen of Meissen. The tower was also enlarged at this time and its dome was erected over the octagonal upper section in the 17th century. The church tower, which can be seen from afar, was renovated in 1998/99 and given a new crown.
In 1896/97, the interior of the church was significantly altered according to plans by Dresden architect Oswald Haenel. The result was a bright, spacious room with a gallery running around the nave.
The church also received a new organ with an attractive neo-Renaissance façade in 1896. It was built by the master organ builder Conrad Geißler from Eilenburg as the 117th organ. The organ has 21 stops on two manuals and pedal (10 Hauptwerk/6 Oberwerk/5 Pedal), making it one of the larger instruments in the Wurzen region. Its original disposition is still largely preserved.
The valuable epitaphs of the former patronage families of v. Holtzendorff and v. Hoym are a special ornament. The village church was also used by the neighboring castle owners as their court church for many years. On the south side of the church, above the sacristy, is its large patronage lodge, which can be reached via the representative south aisle.
The current appearance is characterized by the renovations of 1971 and 1998.
