The cycle route leads past nine of the 19 new lakes and allows cyclists to experience the multifaceted landscape and structural changes in the former open-cast mining landscape.

Nine lakes right on your doorstep, and the Leipzig floodplain forest also provides a natural route to get there without having to use a car: Leipzig's New Lake District is a fascinating landscape. The brown coal mining, which originally meant destruction, has now created an extraordinarily diverse leisure and recreation area. Lying in the sand or white water rafting in the canoe park, cooling off in the crystal clear water or standing on your head on the rollercoaster at the Belantis leisure park: there are many destinations along the way between Lake Cospuden and Lake Zwenkau, and of course there is culture too: Borna's historic old town with the relocated Emmaus Church, the ancient Wiprechtsburg and the baroque Wiederau Castle are small discoveries in a rural idyll.
