The town of Brandis is beautifully situated - in the middle of the beautiful Mulde valley between Leipzig, Wurzen and Grimma. At the gates of Leipzig, you can explore the districts on regional cycle routes. They lead through the great landscape, past quarries, the climbing forest, the Brandis town church, over the Kohlenberg or to Beucha in the "village of stones" with the mountain church that can be seen from afar and sits on a porphyry base above the church quarry that is now filled with water. The granite porphyry that was used to build the Battle of the Nations Monument in Leipzig comes from this quarry, among other places - a quarry with history, a village with stories.
For those who like cool water, there are swimming opportunities at Lake Albrechtshainer. In addition to an area filled with sand to create a beach feeling, you can also relax on the lawns in summer, with or without shade. There is also the Leipzig climbing forest and a boat rental service at the lake.
With lots of greenery, forests, lakes, quarries, cycling and hiking trails, the city and its surroundings offer plenty of variety. Connected to the Leipzig New Lake District, existing tourist opportunities are being expanded and new ones are being developed.
If you decide to explore the Muldental and Leipzig's New Lake District beyond their borders, Brandis is an ideal starting point. Within an hour you can get from Halle to Dresden, from Chemnitz to Wittenberg.
Many of the approximately 60 sports and cultural clubs organize or participate in regular events. The year traditionally begins with the New Year's meeting with fireworks on the market. On April 30th, the maypole is put up on the market. Other highlights of the year include the Brandiser Park Festival in the city park, the musical courtyard festivals in the Polenzer Einigkeit 4 club, the vintage car meeting, the Beucha Triathlon Day on Lake Albrechtshainer, the Christmas market in Beucha and the Brandiser Castle Christmas.
