The former alternative command post of the Leipzig Stasi chief is located in the "Lübschützer Teiche" recreational area.

The former Stasi bunker is located in the middle of the "Lübschützer Teiche" recreational area, around 30 km east of Leipzig. The Ministry for State Security built the bunker here at the end of the 1960s as an alternative command post for the head of the Leipzig District Administration for State Security. The approximately 100-strong command staff around the Leipzig Stasi chief would have continued their work here in the event of war.

The underground facility was kept operational until 1989 in order to continue secret police activities from there and maintain the SED regime's claim to power even in the event of a state of emergency. Today, the original bunker is open to visitors. An exhibition shows the tasks of the Ministry of State Security in an emergency: from extensive surveillance of the population to prepared isolation camps for members of the opposition.

Open every last weekend of the month from 1 - 4 pm.
Special guided tours for groups are also possible outside opening hours by appointment.

Directions & Parking facilities

By public transport: From Leipzig main station, take the S-Bahn line S3 to Machern or the RE50 to Wurzen. Then take bus 682 to the bus stop Lübschütz, Machern (approx. 1.9 km on foot).

By car: Take the B6 to Machern and use the public parking lot of the Lübschützer Teiche recreation area. From there it is about a 10-minute walk to the bunker site, where there is no parking.
