Cavertitz

The municipality of Cavertitz with its 12 districts is located on the edge of the Dahlen Heath, which has been a protected landscape since 1967. This region is extremely scenic and has been a popular recreational destination for vacationers for many years. Woodland and meadows are places of peace and relaxation in a natural landscape. The network of cycling, hiking and riding trails is dense and well signposted. There is ample accommodation in hotels and guesthouses. Beautiful restaurants with a long-standing tradition offer a warm welcome.

The districts of the municipality of Cavertitz have a long history. The manor house in Cavertitz was built as early as the 13th century.

The castle is now used as an elementary school.

The former manor house in Lampertswalde, built at the end of the 14th century, is worth a visit with its well-kept park, rare botanical treasures, a restored gardener's house that has been converted into an apartment and, more recently, a castle café. 1000-year-old urns were found in Schirmenitz in a late Slavic cemetery from the 11th/12th century. During the Battle of Mühlberg on April 24, 1547, Emperor Charles and his brother Ferdinand, King of Bohemia and Hungary, took up residence in the vicarage (now an apartment). Remains of a 17th century deserted settlement and a monastery estate can be found in Reudnitz. In Sörnewitz, the paper mill built in 1669 played an important role and the mountain mill was in operation until 1955.

Other historical buildings include the Bock windmill from 1763 in Zeuckritz (restored in 1996 - tours are possible by appointment), the church built in 1870 in Bucha and the three-arch bridge (1845) in Klingenhain. The animal enclosure is an attraction in Schöna, the gateway to the "Dahlener Heide". A shooting range in Sörnewitz is the venue for national shooting competitions several times a year.
