Schmannewitz windmill
The Schmannewitzer Bockwindmühle was built in 1879. The mill has been owned by the Pfund family since 1908. A bakery was operated next to the mill. The bread baked here was sold in the town and the surrounding villages. In 1924, the mill was equipped with an electric motor, making it possible to grind even when there was no wind. Around 8,000 quintals of grain, flour and meal were ground in the mill every year. The mill has been closed since 1960. It is thanks to dedicated friends of Schmannewitz that the windmill has been preserved as a landmark. Anyone interested in finding out more about this mill can take part in a guided tour of the mill.
