Dommitzsch town and local history museum

The local history museum of the town of Dommitzsch was rebuilt in the years 1980 to 1985 in the house of the former Mohrenapotheke pharmacy in Torgauer Straße, continuing the tradition of the first museum of 1929. In the years 1997 to 1999, the contents of the exhibitions were extensively revised and redesigned. The house itself, probably built in 1716 in half-timbered style, is considered one of the oldest in the town of Dommitzsch and is a listed building. Today, it is not only a museum, but also a meeting and working place for the "Dommitzscher Geschichtsverein", which is also responsible for the museum's content. At present, the history of the town is illustrated in a self-explanatory way in 13 rooms with a total of 300 m² of exhibition space using historical and reconstructed exhibits, photos, graphics and illustrative panels, and the local, social, economic and ecological structure and development of the town of Dommitzsch is presented. This was based on selected documents and archival records as well as chronicles of the town's history.
