Erich Zeigner House Leipzig

Erich Zeigner was a lawyer and SPD politician, served as Saxony's Minister of Justice from 1921 to 1923 and was elected Minister President in 1923. After persecution and imprisonment, he was appointed Mayor of Leipzig in 1945 and held this office until his death in 1949.

The house, which has been preserved in its historical substance, preserves an ensemble of memorabilia from the 1930s. During the National Socialist era, resistance and rescue operations for Jewish citizens were planned and organized here. This history gives the site a special authenticity and forms the basis for the work of the Erich-Zeigner-Haus e. V. 

One focus is on research-based learning projects with schoolchildren. This involves researching the biographies of Nazi victims and "silent heroes", designing memorial plaques and supporting the laying of stumbling blocks. In this way, over 100 previously little-known fates have already been processed and made visible.

Readings, lectures, panel discussions and workshops for children, young people and adults complete the program. In this way, the Erich Zeigner House presents itself as a place steeped in history with a special atmosphere that preserves memory and lives civil courage and democracy.
