Evangelical Lutheran Church Brandis

The town church of Brandis, first mentioned in a document in 1121, is known for its Donat organ from 1705. The instrument by Leipzig master organ builder Christoph Donat is of particular historical value as it is the oldest two-manual organ with twin windchests in Saxony. Around half of the organ from 1705 is still preserved today and has been overhauled, repaired and partially supplemented in recent years.

Church:
Originally probably a Romanesque choir tower church. A choir extension was added at the end of the 15th century. In 1570, a transept-like extension was added to the south side. At the same time, a sacristy was built on the north wall of the choir. Church fires destroyed the furnishings in 1637 and 1696. The altar, the pulpit, the patron's box and the organ were built between 1700 and 1708. The altar with the crucifix dominates with its two columns decorated with palmettes and the scrollwork on the sides. The porphyry baptismal font dates from the end of the 19th century. The sacrament house on the north side of the choir room on a twisted column is one of the oldest pieces of equipment. On the south side of the transept, a Romanesque portal provides access to the "bridal hall". The entrance portal on the west side was added in 1895.
