Geißler organ in the village church of Polenz

Following extensive restoration work, the historic Geißler organ in the Polenz church was named "Saxon Organ of the Month" in June 2018. Regional church music director Markus Leidenberger ceremoniously brought the instrument to life with its 13 stops on two manuals and pedal.

The organ was built in 1878 by Conrad Geißler in the west gallery of the church. His instruments are characterized by solid craftsmanship and a warm sound, characterized by numerous fundamental stops in the 8' register. Geißler made clever use of the limited space by using pipes together for several stops in the lower octaves.

After around 90 years of use, water damage rendered the organ unplayable at the end of the 1960s. An initial restoration failed in the 1980s, but committed citizens again campaigned for its reconstruction from 2000 onwards. Thanks to the meticulous work of master organ builder Frank Peiter, the instrument was restored to its original state in 2016.
