Former central execution site of the GDR

The execution site of the German Democratic Republic was located in a separate part of the Alfred-Kästner-Straße prison from 1960 onwards. All death sentences handed down in the country were carried out here - 64 people were verifiably executed in absolute secrecy.

The exhibition section of the memorial deals with the death penalty in the GDR, which was only abolished in 1987. The entrance to the facility is located at Arndstraße 48. The "Round Corner" is a place of remembrance, commemoration and learning. Today, the Bürgerkomitee Leipzig e. V. looks after the authentic premises. These can be visited annually during the Museum Night and the Open Monument Day.
