Leipzig's New Town Hall is located on the site of the former Pleißenburg castle and has been the seat of Leipzig's city administration since 1905.
With the completion of the New Town Hall in 1905, Leipzig's city administration not only gained a new seat, but also the highest town hall tower in the whole of Germany at 114.7 meters. The castle-like building complex was built on the site of the former Pleißenburg and has since become a landmark of the city.

The complex comprises two transverse wings and three inner courtyards, which cover a total area of around 10,000 m² and are spread over almost 600 rooms. The façade of the building mainly contains elements of historicism, which are in keeping with the fortress character of the previous Pleißenburg building. In addition to these, components from the Baroque, Renaissance and Art Nouveau periods have also been incorporated. The exterior is also adorned with numerous sculptural details such as the lion as the heraldic animal, the city goddess Lipsia and a variety of animals and mythical creatures. The interior of the building is also architecturally valuable and is mainly characterized by the magnificent main staircase and the historic Council Chamber. A special attraction of the New Town Hall is the viewing balcony of the town hall tower, which can be climbed several times a week as part of a guided tour.
