Geoportal Earths of Ceramics in the Schaddelmühle artists' house

The small village of Schaddel is idyllically situated on the River Mulde near the town of Grimma. In the early 1970s, fellow artists settled in the village's old watermill. They founded the Kollegium bildender Künstler "Schaddelmühle" and set up studios and workshops, which enabled a very diverse range of work and production of unique pieces as well as serial ceramics.
Today, the former mill serves as the geoportal "Erden der Keramik" about the rich history of the ceramic industry and the ceramic craft and organizes workshops and ceramic courses for artists and interested people under professional guidance.
The transformer house at the entrance to the Schaddelmühle has been converted into an information point for the geopark "Porphyrland. Rich in Stone in Saxony". Here, visitors can obtain general information about the Porphyryland Geopark and its themes, explanations about the genesis of the clays and kaolin from the crystalline porphyries, as well as an introduction to historical evidence of industrial ceramic production in our region.
