Gnandstein Castle - a castle straight out of a picture book

Near the "pottery town" of Kohren-Salis rises Saxony's best-preserved Romanesque fortifications: Gnandstein Castle near Leipzig. The von Einsiedel family lived here from the 14th century until the end of the Second World War - without ever giving up the keys to the castle. Keep, battlements, battlements, shield wall, palas: the fortress high above the Wyhra is a dream come true for medieval enthusiasts. When climbing up to the keep or in the late Gothic chapel, guests can truly feel the spirit of ancient times. An old legend reinforces the medieval aura: a previously undiscovered treasure is said to be hidden in the castle grounds to this day. Treasures from seven centuries that have already been found can be admired in the exhibition at Gnandstein Castle.

Guests can go on an interactive multimedia tour with the Experience Castle Land app. In it, knight Heinrich Hildebrandt von Einsiedel provides fascinating insights into his family history and brings paintings to life with augmented reality.

With the schlösserlandKARTE, guests can visit Saxony's most beautiful palaces, castles and gardens at their leisure. And the best thing is: you save money. All exhibitions are free with the schlösserlandKARTE. Two children up to the age of 16 accompany the cardholder free of charge. Did you know? The schlösserlandKARTE can also be conveniently purchased digitally via the "Schlösserland erleben" app. This means you always have your personal admission ticket with you on your smartphone.

The Schlösserland app also guarantees a special excursion experience with culinary insider tips, cycling and hiking tours or the best photo spots. The app is available free of charge in the Apple App Store or in the Google Playstore for download.
