Leipzig City Tunnel
The Leipzig City Tunnel is the heart of the Central German S-Bahn network: it provides a direct rail connection between Leipzig Central Station and Bayerischer Bahnhof. The City Tunnel thus provides a fast north-south connection through Leipzig. The new tunnel stations are located 17 to 22 meters below ground level. In this way, the City Tunnel Leipzig makes the entire regional train service faster, more efficient and more comfortable. Since December 15, 2013, six new S-Bahn lines have been connecting the central German economic region around Halle and Leipzig with the surrounding area more quickly and efficiently. In this way, the City Tunnel optimally connects the airport, the trade fair and the city center with the surrounding middle and upper centers such as Halle, Bitterfeld, Altenburg, Wurzen or Eilenburg all the way to Hoyerswerda, Oschatz or Zwickau.
