in the direct vicinity of Leipzig, the town of Markranstädt has developed into a first-class location for leisure, living, housing and working.
In the midst of the metropolitan region of Central Germany and just outside Leipzig, the city of Markranstädt has developed into a prime location for leisure, living, and working. A wide range of leisure and cultural activities, Lake Kulkwitz, a growing economy and an active club culture contribute to the city's positive image and reflect the motto "Markranstädt - face the future with energy".
Lake Kulkwitz, one of the oldest lakes in Leipzig's New Lake District, is one of the region's most popular excursion destinations and one of its most important diving areas. In general, the lake is characterised by a healthy combination of activities and recreation. In addition to diving, you can also go water skiing, surfing, paddling, swimming and take a sauna. According to an ADAC test conducted in 2013, it is one of the top three out of 41 lakes tested in Germany with its excellent bathing water quality and was awarded the rating "very good".
The St. Laurentius Church is located in the heart of Markranstädt. It is not only a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, but is also open for concerts, e. g. the "Markranstädt Music Summer". It also hosts exhibitions. In the Altranstädt Castle, in the neighbourhood bearing the same name, guests will find an excursion destination where history was once written with the "Altranstädter Frieden" and the "Altranstädter Konvention" (a peace accord which settled the rights of Protestants in Silesia).
