Mügeln
Not only those interested in technology can follow in the footsteps of Saxony's small railway tradition. Whether on a ride on the puffing "Wild Robert" from Oschatz through the gentle meadow landscape of the Döllnitz valley to Glossen or Kemmlitz, a visit to the once largest narrow-gauge railway station in Europe in Mügeln or a flying visit to the Glossen railroad adventure world with the field railway show and the field railway museum - anyone visiting Mügeln need not fear a long wait.
A visit to the local history museum or geoportal is worthwhile, where guests can also learn interesting facts about the region's industrial development. The range is wide. It ranges from the extraction of kaolin to the tradition of manufacturing stove tiles and the production of paint boxes.
A tour of the "Mügeln Banking Center" provides unusual views of the town and the charming landscape. For example, they will learn that the builder of Dresden's Frauenkirche, George Bähr, is said to have provided the plans for the Schweta village church or that St. Mary's in Altmügeln was once a pilgrimage church.
Those who want to go on an adventure tour by bike or on foot along the well-signposted cycling and hiking routes can look forward to even more unique experiences. Enjoy pure natural idyll at the sight of the meadows of wildflowers near Schweta, take a break at the Gaudlitz Kranichau with a sea of willowherbs or lily of the valley in spring, hike along the nature trail in Kemmlitz or through the forest near Seelitz.
On the other hand, there is pure action on the motocross track on the site of one of the former kaolin mines in Kemmlitz. If you need a breather in between in summer, you can take a day of relaxation in the Mügeln municipal swimming pool.
