Neukieritzsch

Historical site

There is plenty to discover and experience in the municipality of Neukieritzsch, located in southern Leipzig's Neuseenland region. Colorful vacation homes and apartments line the promenade at the Kahnsdorf lagoon on Lake Hain. In addition to the local sailing school and a boat rental shop, other stores and tourist attractions are also being built for maritime life on the lake. In the town center is the manor house, which has been converted into an idyllic café and was visited by Friedrich Schiller.

Another personality associated with Neukieritzsch is Katharina von Bora. She went down in history as the wife of Martin Luther. There are commemorative plaques to this effect in the village church of Kieritzsch. The municipality of Neukieritzsch is located on the Luther Trail, the Pleiß Cycle Path and the "Via Imperii" pilgrimage trail. If you fancy taking a look at the active open-cast mine, you can do so at the viewing point in the district of Deutzen.
