Nikolai Church Zschortau

The Nikolaikirche in Zschortau has its origins in the 12th or 13th century. Around 1500, the nave was raised, extended and fitted with Gothic windows, significantly enlarging the chancel. The interior contains important pieces of furniture, in particular a richly decorated carved altar from 1517, which is considered to be of great art-historical value. Another special treasure of the church is the historic Scheibe organ, which was built between 1744 and 1746 by Johann Scheibe and whose sound was already tested and praised by Johann Sebastian Bach in 1746. The Nikolaikirche is a culturally significant venue for church services, concerts and community events.
