Petershof (Petersstraße)
The "Zum Engel" inn once stood on the site of the Petershof. It was here that Johann Friedrich Böttger first exhibited his porcelain in Leipzig in 1710. Friedrich Schiller moved into the Petershof in 1785. The new building complex was built between 1927 and 1929 according to a design by architect Alfred Liebig and was named after its location on Petersstraße when it opened.
From 1929 to 2003, the Capitol film theater was housed in the basement and first floor, after which the building was completely rebuilt. The listed façade on Petersstraße and part of the atrium have been preserved. The façade design of the Petershof is absolutely unique and features seven larger-than-life sculptures. They depict portraits of the personalities involved in the construction.
