Town and Local History Museum Rötha - History of a Town in Transition
The Rötha Town and Local History Museum vividly illustrates the history of the town and its region from prehistory and early history to the more recent past. The focus is on crafts, agriculture and, in particular, lignite mining, which had a lasting impact on the townscape and society.
Historical documents, photographs and everyday objects bring the life of earlier generations to life.
The museum is housed in the former municipal prison from 1910, which was used until 1953 and is itself an important contemporary witness. Since its opening in 2001, the museum has been continuously developed by the Rötha Town and Local History Association with the support of the town and is now a central place of remembrance, education and cultural life in Rötha.
Due to its central location, a visit to the museum can be easily combined with a walk through the town center or a visit to other sights such as Rötha Castle Park.
