Museum complex with Groitzsch tower

Town tower
It is the remains of the Romanesque St. Aegidius Church (former town church, 1190). It was completely destroyed except for the tower by a fire in 1513. The 23-metre-high tower was not repaired until 1714, after which it continued to serve as an armory, Seigerturm (clock tower), prison and guard's quarters. From 1993 to 1995, it was completely renovated and has since housed a local history exhibition at the Groitzsch Town Museum. You can climb the 60 steps up the tower and enjoy the view over the town and the Elster floodplain.

Alte Wache
The building houses a remarkable exhibition on the town's shoe history; it is not called Schustergreetzsch for nothing (there used to be over 600 shoemakers and master shoemakers and over ten shoe factories in the town!).

Changing exhibitions as well as the history of Wiprecht II von Groitzsch and the Wiprechtsburg castle grounds, the history of the town and all 29 districts, the history of associations and schools are the content of the museum's presentation of the history of our town.
