Russian Memorial Church
In 1910, the Russian Empire also remembered the great contribution that Alexander I's troops had made to the victory at Leipzig in 1813. Under the honorary chairmanship of Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich, a building committee began its planning work. The city of Leipzig provided the land for a church building. The architect was the renowned sacred architect Pokrowski, whose preliminary work was completed and implemented by the Leipzig architects Weidenbach and Tschammer. After the foundation stone was laid on December 28, 1912, the imposing building was consecrated as the St. Alexi Memorial Church on October 17, 1913 and has since commemorated the 22,000 fallen Russian soldiers of the Battle of the Nations.
