St. Peter's Church
St. Peter's Church, an Evangelical Lutheran parish church, is located in the southern center of Leipzig on Gaudigplatz. Its foundation stone was laid in 1882. Today, it is used as a flexible event space as it no longer has fixed seating. The wide nave not only hosts church services, but also concerts, theater performances, exhibitions, conferences and even events of the Leipzig Wave-Gotik-Treffen.The neo-Gothic building was severely damaged in an air raid in 1943. As a result, the roof was completely destroyed and the chapels partially destroyed. The façade, windows and interior also suffered badly.
After extensive clearing and restoration, the church's elaborate decor with colored stained glass windows is particularly noteworthy today. These are considered a unique restored cycle of stained glass in Saxony. At 88 meters, St. Peter's Church also has the highest church tower in the city of Leipzig. There are four bronze bells in the tower. The width of the central nave of the church is also impressive, with a span of 17 meters it even exceeds that of Cologne Cathedral.
