Schmeisser organ in St. John's Church, Belgershain

Alfred Schmeisser (1878 - 1957), the third generation of the company founder Wilhelm Schmeisser (1817 - 1882) to work in Rochlitz, built the organ in 1905 with pneumatic key and stop action. II/18 With the second manual extended to a Sifflöte 1', this organ documents an early example of the era of the organ movement. After the foundation stone for the new building of St. John's Church was laid in 1682, the church and a first organ by Christoph Donat from Leipzig were consecrated in 1686. In 1770, the organ was rebuilt by Johann Gottlieb Mauer from Altenburg. The generously designed second west gallery indicates the cultivation of sophisticated church music.
