Stadtmuseum Belgern (City Museum)

Short facts

Visitors can expect a veritable flood of historical information.

The Stadtmuseum Belgern is located in one of the oldest houses in the city, in the old forge at Topfmarkt 7. In the main room on the ground floor, visitors can expect a real flood of historical information about Belgern. It illustrates the importance of the Elbe for the development of the city as well as crafts, agriculture, brewing, viticulture and markets, as well as the jurisdiction and important coin finds of the region. Particularly worth seeing are a beer sign from 1783, which signalled the beer bar in a property equipped with brewing rights, the district court crucifix, donated by mayor Kaulisch in 1681 and used until 1935 in the city later district court and the ark of the Döhnerwiesengesellschaft from the middle of the 18th century. You can also see the original writing and coat of arms of the Postal Mile Column.
