The Taucha City Museum was founded in 1926 and was housed in the former "Am Schmiedehöfchen" hospital. Due to the difficult economic situation, exhibitions of local history could only be shown in intervals.
In connection with the first "Tauchscher" local festival on 03 September 1933, the museum was opened. Several moves were necessary until the museum and its collection found a permanent home in one of the city's oldest town houses - a former brewery in Brauhausstraße 24.
In 1977, the building was included in the list of district monuments and 10 years later, due to its structural condition, it was shut down by the state building inspectorate. Since 1990, extensive reconstruction measures have been carried out in compliance with the requirements of the protection of historical monuments. They were completed in 1995.
In May 1995, the museum was opened with the addition of a children's library and museum restaurant. Constantly changing exhibitions with a local historical character and numerous special exhibitions offer visitors a varied spectrum.

When the Protestant armies of King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden and Elector Johann Georg I joined forces in September 1631, they defeated the imperial-league army under Tilly.
