Wachberg Waldheim observation tower
Visible from afar is the Victory Tower, built in 1871 to commemorate the Franco-Prussian War on the 264-metre-high Wachberg made of serpentine stone. From the viewing platform at a height of around 20 m, visitors have a magnificent panoramic view of the city itself, its wooded heights and also into the distance. On a clear day, you can see the Ore Mountains and the Monument to the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig. There is also a charming view of the steel bridge with the Heiligenborn Viaduct behind it. The Waldheim Beautification Association played a major role in the construction of the observation tower, which also built the paths and stairways and carried out the afforestation of the mountain.
