Wermsdorf fish

  • Handicraft

You don't necessarily have to go to the sea to eat good fish, because you can also find it in Wermsdorf! Fishing has been a great tradition here for 500 years. From September to November, the 27 ponds of Teichwirtschaft Wermsdorf are a hive of activity when the carp season is in full swing.

A good 200 tons of freshwater fish are caught in the inland waters every year. In addition to mirror, scaly, grass and silver carp, sturgeon, pike, catfish and zander are also native to the area. They are sold as fresh fish or smoked as regional products or delivered frozen to retailers and supermarkets throughout Germany. In addition to the fish specialties, caviar, which has been produced from sturgeon eggs since 2012, is also popular throughout Germany.

If you would like to try the delicacies yourself or watch the traditional fishing, we recommend the annual "Horstseefischen" event in October.
