The Park Railway
Since 1951, the small steam locomotive of the park railway has been running, at that time still Pioneer Railway called, around the idyllic Auensee. On its circular route it covers early April to late October a distance of about 1,9 km and travels through a station and three stops. The miniature railway takes you on its Opening hours on weekdays as well as on Sundays and public holidays, you can take a relaxing ride across meadows with a view of the Auensee and through densely wooded areas. The only day of rest is Monday.
Adults pay €3,00 for the ride on the battery-powered locomotive and €3,50 for the steam locomotive. Children pay €1,50 or €2,00. The former amusement park
After its use as a gravel pit, the area around the Auensee was converted into an amusement park in 1912. The Luna Park with its roller coaster with Alpine backdrop, a hippodrome, a gondola station, the Lunabahn around the lake, a music pavilion, restaurants and dance palaces developed into popular excursion destination for Leipzig residentsBy the end of the 1920s, however, the attraction of the Luna Park had already waned and restaurants and rides had to close. In 1941, the city of Leipzig became the owner of the Auensee site and was responsible for the redesign of the floodplain area.
Although you will no longer find an amusement park around the Auensee, there are still entertainment options, in addition to the picturesque landscape. The floodplain area

The up to 10-meter-deep groundwater lake was created around 1910 as a gravel pit for the construction of Leipzig Central Station. Until the fall of the Berlin Wall, the excursion steamer MS Weltfrieden about the Auensee and even today you can explore the lake by boat. The Auensee is surrounded by orchards and wetlands, where particularly fragrant wild garlic feels good.
