Mosquito lock at Rosental

The restaurant "Mückenschlösschen" is located directly between the Rosental and the Waldstraßenviertel district. This makes it idyllically situated on the one hand, surrounded by unique park and meadow landscapes, and on the other, in the Waldstraßenviertel, the largest contiguous Wilhelminian-era ensemble in Germany. The kitchen at the Mückenschlösschen offers homemade Saxon and Bavarian dishes. In summer, one of Leipzig's largest beer gardens invites you to socialize. Numerous events and an interesting entertainment program are also regularly offered at the Mückenschlösschen. For example, you can experience the dinner show "Mordkomplott" or theater performances.

The name "Mückenschlösschen" (Little Mosquito Castle) derives from the legend that Augustus the Strong once rode along the nearby meadow, looking for a building site. However, he was so attacked by mosquitoes that he fell from his horse and abandoned his building plans. This pleased the people of Leipzig, who did not want him to be buried in the Rosental built a castle.
