The floodplain area covers 5,900 hectares and is partly protected.
The Leipzig floodplain forest is one of the largest floodplain forest areas in Central Europe and is located in the floodplain of the Elster, Pleiße and Luppe rivers. Of particular interest is the diverse flora and fauna, which is protected in some areas. Leipzig's floodplain forest station is also popular, which is also talked about in our Podcast "Welcome to Leipzig".

Some popular parks and green spaces connect the northern and southern parts of the floodplain forest. This means that the forest area extends right into Leipzig's city center.
