Doberschütz

The village of Doberschütz itself is located on the B 87 between the towns of Eilenburg and Torgau on the edge of the Düben Heath. It is nestled in a wooded area that consists mainly of conifers, but there are also an increasing number of oaks, beeches and birches in the forest. The forests around Doberschütz are a popular excursion destination for residents of the greater Leipzig area. From Doberschütz, you can reach the nature conservation project "Presseler Heidewald und Moorgebiet". Beavers and cranes have already settled here again.

Doberschütz was first mentioned in documents in 1314. The history of Battaune can be traced back around 1000 years. The other communities belonging to Doberschütz were also established at the same time.

Our landscape is shaped by the Schwarzbach stream, which originates from the Kuhgrund in Sprotta.

One of the sights in our municipality is the Witrowberg in Paschwitz. Around the 10th/11th century, the Witrow church was built in the extinct village of Witrow. It was situated in the middle of the old churchyard on an artificial elevation and was named the high church of Witrow because of its location. The Friedemann tower windmill is a special gem. It has been in existence since 1883 and grinding was still carried out here until 1998. It is the only wind-powered tower windmill in our region. The village church of Battaune is also well worth a visit. Here you will find a late Gothic carved altar and a very valuable wall painting, which was only recently discovered during renovation work.

In the Winkelmühle district, which belongs to Wöllnau, you will find what is now the smallest public forest cemetery in Europe.

A nature trail has been laid out and signposted over a length of 4 km.
