George-Bähr Church in Schmannewitz

The design of the Schmannewitz church originated from George Bähr, who was the architect of the Dresden Church of our Lady (Frauenkirche)

Schmannewitz boasts a cultural and historical landmark with its baroque village church. It was established as a single-nave construction in 1731/32, the hexagonal tower and the interior fittings date back to the end of the 18th century. The Schmannewitzer residents had a great surprise when the tower was renovated in 1961/62. In the process, they found a sweeping hexagonal vellum, from which emerged that the design for the Schmannewitz church stemmed from the renowned George Bähr, architect of the famous Frauenkirche in Dresden. The old Rühle organ is also still in good condition. Those who find themselves holidaying in Schmannewitz at the right time can experience fantastic concerts here.
