Handwerkerpassage (market / Klostergasse)

  • Pedestrian zone
The former "Kaufhalle am Markt" is considered to be one of the last examples of the "Durchgangshaus der Warenmesse". The new Handwerkerpassage was inaugurated in 1989.
The late classicist building directly on the market dates back to the mid-19th century and is now one of the last examples of the Warenmesse passageway. The former "Kaufhalle am Markt" once comprised 41 sales outlets, which were located along the passageway to Klostergasse.

After extensive renovation work, the newly named Handwerkerpassage was inaugurated, where the unique window cleaner's fountain was also installed. During a further renovation of the front building in 1997 and 1998, the entrances to the Barfußgäßchen and today's Marktgalerie were created.
