Lake Kulkwitz

Short facts

The "Kulki" on the western edge of the city of Leipzig is considered one of the most important diving waters in Europe.

The popular recreational area around Lake Kulkwitz is located between the cities of Leipzig and Markranstädt. It is not only its exceptional water quality and variety of sport and leisure activities that will entice you, but the lush flora and fauna too.

As early as in the 70s, bathing in Lake Kulkwitz was permitted, with it being considered a real gem amongst divers in particular. With its underwater park and visibility range of over 10 metres, it is one of the most popular diving waters in central Germany. Other diverse recreational activities offered to visitors include a water ski lift to the wake-boarding area, a high rope course, the floating lido or boat rental. Surfing, sailing and fishing enthusiasts can find plenty of entertainment at Lake Kulkwitz too.

The connection to the Elster-Saale cycle route makes for a comfortable onward journey on a bicycle, whilst visitors with dogs are sure to feel at home on the dog beach.

In addition, culinary catering is seen to by the adjacent guest house with lakeside terrace, whilst the holiday resorts on one of the lake's peninsulas are perfect for spending a few days by the "Kulki".
