Leipzig Bach Festival
The Leipzig Bach Festival is one of the most important music festivals in honor of Johann Sebastian Bach. As an integral part of Leipzig's calendar of events, the festival commemorates the composer, who worked as Thomaskantor in Leipzig from 1723 until his death in 1750, every year in June.
The annually changing motto always opens up new perspectives on Bach's life and work. Around 200 events take place as part of the festival, including oratorios, cantatas, organ concerts, chamber music and contemporary formats. The program is complemented by lectures, guided tours and other cultural offerings. The central venues include St. Thomas Church, the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, St. Nicholas Church and the BachStage on Leipzig Market Square.
With its diverse program, the Bach Festival shapes the Leipzig summer and attracts thousands of guests from Germany and abroad every year.
