The Gewandhaus is located on Augustusplatz opposite Leipzig Opera House and is home to the famous Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.

The Leipzig Gewandhaus is the venue for around 800 events a year. Here the Gewandhaus Orchestra plays its symphony concerts in the Great Hall, while the somewhat smaller Mendelssohn Hall presents the Gewandhaus chamber music.

Concerts of well-known music greats take place regularly and it is a popular location for lectures and congresses. The large hall seats a total of 1,900 visitors and houses the majestic Schuke organ. The Gewandhaus is also part of the Leipzig Music Trail and the Leipzig Music Wheel as well as the venue for the annual Laughter Fair.
