Mendelssohn at the Bach Festival

A number of events dedicated to the composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy take place at the Bachfest.
11. On March 11, 1829, the Berlin Singakademie conducted by the Leipzig composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy performed the St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach. Since then, Mendelssohn has been regarded as the "rediscoverer" of Bach's masterpiece. With this in mind, several events within the Bachfest are dedicated to Mendelssohn, which take place in the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig or the Mendelssohn House.
