Machern Castle and Landscape Garden
The Schlossspark Machern, or Machern Landscape Garden, combines impressive garden scenes with architectural features to create an atmospheric overall experience. The starting point is Machern Castle, a historic moated castle dating back to the 15th century, which is also known today as an event venue and wedding location.
The approximately 35-hectare park was designed by Carl Heinrich August von Lindenau in the English style at the end of the 18th century. Garden architect E. W. Glasewald created striking structures such as the Pyramid, the Hygiea Temple and the romantic ruins of the knight's castle.
Twisting paths lead through varied sections and always open up new perspectives. Themed tours provide in-depth insights into botany, history or the hidden symbolism of the park. Atmospheric tours are particularly appealing in winter, when the knight's castle unfolds a mysterious atmosphere in the light of torches and candles.
The park can be reached in half an hour from Leipzig and invites you to discover it at any time of year.
