MDR Studio

Venue
The MDR Studio on Augustusplatz was built especially for rehearsals and recordings by the MDR Radio Choir and the MDR Symphony Orchestra.
Dresden architect Peter Kulka designed the shiny black MDR Studio, which is connected to the Gewandhaus and was completed in 2001. The glazed and fully air-conditioned bridge provides musicians with their instruments and choir singers with direct access to concerts during the MDR concert season in the Gewandhaus.

The bridge also symbolizes the fact that there are no two separate music venues on Augustusplatz, but one large music center in the heart of the city of Leipzig. Both the MDR Radio Choir and the MDR Symphony Orchestra rehearse in the MDR Studio . No other orchestra in Europe is as closely associated with the emergence of radio as the Central German Radio Symphony Orchestra, which was founded in 1924.
