New Augusteum and Paulinum

The Neues Augusteum and Paulinum are buildings of Leipzig University and part of the new university campus. Both are adjacent to each other and were designed as part of the new campus construction in 2007. While the Augusteum was completed in 2012, the Paulinum - the auditorium and university church of St. Pauli - was only opened at the end of 2017. This offers 550 seats and a further 120 in the gallery. There is also a prayer room with 120 seats, which is separated by a glass wall. The epitaphs salvaged from the Paulinerkirche before it was blown up and the altar are once again located in this prayer room.

Both buildings stand on the same site where they were blown up in 1968. The only fragment from the 19th century, the so-called Schinkel Gate of the old Augusteum, was integrated into the new building. Today, it serves as the entrance to the building from the inner courtyard of the Leibniz Forum.
