Museum Hofmann Collection Kohren-Sahlis
Remarkable collection of Rudolf and Ursula Hofmann with farmhouse furniture, Biedermeier rooms, pewter, toys, old Kohren ceramics, textiles, photos and much more.
The museum is located in an old town house on Kohrener Markt. It goes back to the collection of Rudolf Hofmann and his wife, the hand weaver Ursula. Both were very attached to their homeland and collected everything they thought was worth preserving, even against the spirit of the times. This resulted in a remarkable collection with a strong connection to Kohren-Sahlis and the Kohrener Land region, including farmhouse furniture, Biedermeier rooms, pewter, toys, old Kohren ceramics, textiles, photos, a loom and much more. Particularly noteworthy is an original preserved salt tavern. In order to preserve the collection (which was in danger of being expropriated), the couple initially donated the house and everything in it to the district council in 1983.
After reunification, the building and collection were transferred to Kohren-Sahlis. The condition was that they be made into a museum. In 1999, while Ursula Hofmann was still alive, the museum opened in the rear building. Since her death in 2001, it has been continuously expanded.
Cabinet exhibitions take place every year under the title "From Rudl's drawers...". In cooperation with the Kohrener Geschichtsverein e.V., lectures are held on various topics. Small weddings (up to 10 people) can be held in the museum all year round; appointments can be made at the Frohburg registry office.
