Monument to the Battle of the Nations and Forum 1813

The most famous monument in Leipzig commemorates the decisive battle in October 1813 against Napoleon, which was fought on the fields around Leipzig.
With around half a million soldiers and more than 110,000 casualties, the event became the largest battle of the 19th century.
The monument was dedicated on October 18, 1913 in the middle of the former battlefield in memory of the soldiers who lost their lives during the battle. The memorial is impressive not only because of its appearance, but also because of the viewing platform that presents itself after 364 steps, which offers a phenomenal panoramic view over Leipzig and the surrounding area at a height of 91 meters. Passenger elevators take visitors up to the upper outer gallery at a height of 58 meters.
In addition, guided tours, choir concerts, open-air events, educational museum offers and special exhibitions take place here all year round. The FORUM 1813 museum integrated into the monument complex also offers spectacular insights into the events of the Wars of Liberation and the Battle of the Nations.
The Monument to the Battle of the Nations is also an impressive destination for families. Even toddlers as young as three years old can climb the Völkerschlachtdenkmal. The Battle of the Nations Monument Foundation also organizes regular events for children. Guided tours for schoolchildren can also be booked. The Monument has audio guides in several languages for visitors of all ages.
For the very young and their parents, there are changing tables in both the barrier-free toilet and the ladies' toilet.
