Play Leipzig
The Schauspiel Leipzig sees itself as Leipzig's municipal theater. Aesthetic diversity as a response to the diversity that defines the city of Leipzig, concise directorial handwriting, lively debates and numerous accompanying offers characterize the style of the house. Since 2013, artistic director Enrico Lübbe and his team have been implementing their concept of a progressive municipal theater in line with the diversity and range of interests that can be experienced in Leipzig on a daily basis.
The theater has three venues. Characteristic of the programmatic work at the Schauspielhaus are scenic double bills in which antiquity and the present are reflected and encountered, but the repertoire is also characterized by the examination of epochal classics and the discussion of issues of the recent past.
The Diskothek venue is dedicated exclusively to contemporary drama and the sustainable promotion of young authors.
The Residenz in the old cotton mill in Plagwitz has also established itself internationally as a co-production and event venue for freely produced performative theater.
For guests of the city and audiences with an international background, Schauspiel Leipzig regularly offers performances with English surtitles.
