Rochlitz Castle
The "Lichte Jupe" and "Finstere Jupe" towers have stood in Rochlitz for more than 600 years. Rochlitz Castle was built in the 10th century as a castle to secure the victory over the Western Slavs. Later, princes ruled between warlike sieges. But Rochlitz Castle also experienced brighter times: Dedo von Groitzsch, known as "the Fat One", promoted the settlement of the Rochlitz region. Market Count Wilhelm the One-Eyed had the castle converted into a residential palace. Duchess Elisabeth of Saxony paved the way for the Reformation during the Schmalkaldic War. The lovingly restored prince's house with its stately rooms and magnificent dining hall is particularly impressive. In an interactive exhibition, young and old can experience the history of the "forgotten Wettins".
With the App "Schlösserland erleben", guests can experience an interactive multimedia tour through the historic rooms of the castle. In addition, the famous Elisabeth von Rochlitz appears in augmented reality and shows a secret hiding place.
The Schlösserland app guarantees a special excursion experience to suit individual tastes with culinary insider tips, cycling and hiking tours or the best photo spots for a perfect day at Rochlitz Castle. The app is available free of charge in the Apple App Store or in the Google Playstore available.
With the schlösserlandKARTE, guests can visit Saxony's most beautiful palaces, castles and gardens for free. And the best thing is: you save money. All exhibitions are free with the schlösserlandKARTE. Two children up to the age of 16 accompany the cardholder free of charge. Did you know? - By public transport: From Leipzig main station, take the S-Bahn line S6 to Geithain. Then take bus line 628, 629 to the bus stop Bismarckstraße, Rochlitz (approx. 10 minutes on foot).
