Schmannewitz Farm Museum
In the idyllic heathland village of Schmannewitz, the Farm Museum invites visitors on a journey back in time to the era of independent farming. Set in a medium-sized three-sided farmstead, some 3,000 exhibits vividly illustrate the work and way of life in rural agriculture, crafts, and beekeeping. Lovingly furnished parlors, a kitchen with a historic wood-fired oven, bedrooms, and a washhouse bring the daily life of past generations to life. Particularly worth seeing are a 19th-century laundry roller and an old wood-fired oven.
The former barn displays large agricultural implements such as ladder wagons, field wagons, and threshing machines. The former guesthouse hosts rotating special exhibitions—including topics on local history and “Grandma’s School Days”—as well as a historic classroom. A fully functional demonstration blacksmith’s shop rounds out the museum experience.
On select dates, special events such as the Spring Festival and the Harvest Festival take place. During these events, historical work techniques such as bread baking, blacksmithing, threshing, spinning, and churning are demonstrated, bringing rural history to life in a vivid way.

Visitor appointments for groups of 10 or more also possible outside opening hours. Directions & Parking facilities
- By public transport: From Leipzig main station, take the RE50 to Oschatz. In Oschatz, change to bus 781 to Schmannewitz, Torgauer Straße. The destination is about 200 m away on foot.
By car: Take the B6 to Goethestraße in Wurzen. Take Torgauer Str., Falkenhainer Ch, S23, Karl-Marx-Straße and K8921 to Dr.-Alfred-Brehm-Straße in Dahlen Organization
