Theater Döbeln
The long-term commitment of Döbeln's city fathers and mothers to their theater is also demonstrated by the modern extension opened in 2007, which provides an exciting counterpoint to the historic building and offers modern dressing rooms, workshops and storage rooms in addition to a studio stage and side stage. The building services, orchestra pit and auditorium were completely renovated in 2011/12, and the theater has been able to attract many new audiences since the start of the 2012/13 season.
In early June 2013, however, the building was flooded for the second time since the flood disaster in 2002, as was the entire city centre of Döbeln. There was extensive damage to the first floor of both the old and the new building; performances on the main stage were able to resume in November 2013, but the entire first floor was not usable again until the theater ball in March 2014.
