Trebsen Castle and Manor

Trebsen developed into one of the largest manors in Saxony. With over 1,000 hectares of land and the interest income from 2 towns and over 10 villages, the wealth is documented in the construction of a new castle complex. Around 1494, Georg von Saalhausen acquired the Trebsen manor and began building the castle. The high-quality cell vaults in the first floor rooms are evidence of this construction phase. With the purchase of the manor in 1521, the castle was completed as a four-winged complex under Hans von Minkwitz. The castle underwent further structural changes as ownership changed frequently.

In 1992, the Förderverein für Handwerk und Denkmalpflege e.V. - Rittergut Trebsen - was founded and moved into the castle. The main purpose of this association was to rebuild the castle in accordance with its listed status and to use it as an educational facility for the preservation of historical monuments and as a cultural meeting place. With the utilization of rooms in the castle and the Trebsen manor, the association was able to expand its cultural offerings. In addition to concerts and theater performances, jazz and blues events have become an integral part of the regional cultural landscape.
