Lake Schladitz near Leipzig - the insider tip in Leipzig's New Lake District

223 hectares of water, around 8.5 kilometers of path around the entire lake and a whole 7 kilometers of shoreline - if that doesn't convince you, we don't know what does. In order to fulfill a certain educational mission, here is a brief overview of the development of the "Schladi". From 1989 to 1991, the community of Schladitz was cleared and demolished in favor of coal mining. However, sales of lignite products deteriorated so badly after 1990 that Schladitz ultimately remained untouched by mining. Flooded in 1998, the lake has been used as a bathing lake and for water sports action since 2003.

Only a mere 14 kilometers separate Leipzig and the Schladi, which lies between Rackwitz and Schkeuditz. Now it's time to overcome them. We have prepared the economy version (for your energy, of course) and the fit alternative:

You re spoilt for choice when it comes to traveling by public transport - depending on whether you d rather pay a little visit to Rackwitz or Zschortau and where you d like to arrive at the lake. From Leipzig main station, take the S2 in the direction of Bitterfeld and enjoy the journey to Rackwitz. Once there, you ll have to switch off the energy-saving mode again, because a small walk of around 3.5 km along field paths awaits you.

Alternatively, you ll continue to Zschortau and get on the bus line 207 in the direction of Wolteritz - Schkeuditz and travel another 5 minutes to Wolteritz. From here, it's only about a 1-kilometre hike.

With the car you can get directly to the lake from Leipzig almost as quickly - parking spaces near the water included.

What's left for the sporty version? Exactly, the good old wire bike. All sporty types can also pedal their way to the Schladi.

Do you know what the "A" in "Schladi" stands for? Think about it really hard. It stands for action, adventure and lots of adrenaline, of course. The ALL-on-SEA Sport Resort is located directly on the Schladi and opens the doors to another world - water sports.

As soon as you get your first glimpse of the lake, you'll immediately notice it: It's colorful here! In good weather, numerous kite and windsurfers cavort on the waves. If you d like to feel the power of water and wind up close and experience this indescribable feeling of freedom on the waves, then head to the Schladi!

Just dive in and discover the fascinating underwater world - algae that have found their very own dance to the melody of the waves, iridescent fish that immediately consider you part of the community and car wrecks that cast a mystical spell over you. You can explore the lake at depths of up to 25 meters while diving and snorkelling&nbsp. Of course, the whole thing also works without air! How? Yes, now you re awake again, aren't you? In so-called apnoea diving, you plunge into the water without any aids and use a single breath for your dive.

Are your toes itching and your motto is "the foot bus always drives"? You can walk around the lake in a relaxed manner for around 8.5 kilometers - you can either use the paved path or enjoy the spirit of the beautiful natural surroundings right on the lakeshore on a narrow trail. The asphalt path surrounded by greenery will also make your bike tires and skates especially happy, bet? By the way: You can also hire a bike from the Sport Resort if you don't have a bike of your own.

Fun, fun, fun and nothing but fun is what your kids and you get - right - at the Water Fun Park at Lake Schladitz. Jumping, sliding, climbing, running - the complete workout program is even more fun on the lake (even those who don't like sports will get their money's worth here)! The ideal adventure program for you and the little ones.

But here too, of course: Safety first! The park is only open to children aged 6 and over and children up to and including the age of 15 must wear life jackets.
